My job: I’ve been working at a community center for a year. I work 2:30-5pm every day and teach dance classes Tues. and Thurs. during that time. I work with kids so coming in early or staying late is not an option because I need to be there when the kids are. I don’t necessarily love my job but I like it and I love the location and people I work with! I don’t mind going to work. I’m struggling to pay rent but since the job is so good, I decided to stick with it.
School: I just got my schedule today and Tuesdays and Thursdays I have to go from 3-5:30. I tried to rearrange things but they are all full and a small school so they don’t offer tons of class times. MWF I get done at 2:30, when I should be starting work. It’s about a 40 min. drive from school to work.
So my question is…WHAT SHOULD I DO?!? School is my top priority but I love my job! If I ask my boss if I can come in late on MWF, she would probably say yes but then I would be making much less money than I am now, and I am really struggling as it is. And plus, I teach dance Tues and Thurs where I make about triple the amount of money I do normally. UUUGGGGHHHHH this is horrible!!! The people at the school told me to see Career Services to find a flexible job and I told them NO I LOVE MY JOB!!! And they said they could do their best to switch my schedule and that was the best they could do this quarter and I’d probably run into this problem every quarter.
UUUUGGGHHH what should I do?

You seem frustrated. First give yourself time to cool down. Then assess your priorities. Is it absolutely necessary to have a job of that calibur? If you don’t need to work that much, then don’t. You clearly need time for your studies and part time work (that probably doesn’t matter much) shouldn’t be your top priority. Teach dance more often (say 3 times a week if you can spare that much time) and quit the other job. Clearly, you’ll get more $ for teaching dance as averse to working the other job. Then you can focus on your studies.
